StoryTelling for Impact
14TH MAY | 1PM BST | VIRTUAL | FREE
Storytelling is an essential skill for any non profit or social good organisation. Whether it’s cutting through in a cluttered market, engaging partners, or empowering your own team to tell your story, storytelling has become the skill that makes the difference.
This is the first of a series of live interviews with founders and leaders of social good organisations, talking about the challenges they face when it comes to StoryTelling and Impact, and the learnings they’ve had on the journey to success.
Our first interview is with Ally Owen, founder of the Brixton Finishing School. The organisation was created to solve the Advertising, Marketing and Creative Industries inclusion problem and to realise the potential of untapped talent. Its award-winning family of programmes connect those in the industry with those traditionally held outside of it - those from socially mobile or multicultural backgrounds. These talents go on to enrich our industry - different voices and thinking fuels a company’s competitive advantage as inclusive teams produce better profits, increase productivity & elevate staff retention.
Ally is a digital leader with over 25 years experience in the Media & Advertising industries, in companies like Guardian News and Media, Unruly, MailOnline, Yahoo and more. She founded Brixton Finishing School in 2017 and has been a trail blazer in the industry ever since, with accolades including: Changemaker 2023 (MEFA Diversity Awards), Media Leader 2022, Campaign Female Frontiers Championing Change 2021, Campaign Trailblazer 2020, BIMA Champion for Change 2020, Ad Age Woman to Watch in Europe 2020.
Our conversation will cover Ally’s experiences in cutting through as a not for profit entity, how storytelling has helped their cause, and how she has overcome challenges along the way. There will be an opportunity for Q&A at the end for attendees.
